Daniel Simiu Ebenyo and Brillian Chepkorir delivered dominant performances to win their respective senior races at the Athletics Kenya Cross Country Championships.
Thousands of athletes assembled at the Eldoret Sports Club for the Athletics Kenya cross country championships on Saturday, February 8, displaying their thrilling performances.
At the end of the day, only a few were crowned champions and managed to walk away with the hefty prize money offered following the Athletics Kenya and Betika partnership.
The men’s senior race was one for the books as Daniel Ebenyo of the National Police Service did not fail his employer, displaying his cross-country prowess once again to take the win.

The world 10,000m silver medallist distanced himself from his opponents earlier on in the race and it was evident that he had only one goal to win the race.
They caught up with him and he took turns leading the pack but when he had enough of it, he decided to create a huge gap between himself and his challengers and sprinted to take the top prize.
Nickson Kogei of the Kenya Wildlife Services and Simon Mungai of Central finished second and third respectively.
The women’s senior race was no different as a number of strong women toed the line for the grueling task. However, two names, Brillian Chepkorir and Maureen Chepkoech, dictated the pace of the race.
Brillian Chepkorir, coming back from maternity was expected to keep it cool but she had no time for that. Soon, the race became a battle between the new mother and Maureen Chepkoech who has been an outstanding in previous cross-country races.
It is safe to say that Chepkorir’s stature helped her gain advantage over Maureen Chepkoech who tried to close the gap. However, Chepkorir’s huge strides did not give room for that.
Brillian Chepkorir of the Prisons Service crossed the finish line first in a time of 32:32 ahead of Chepkoech who settled for second in 34:29. Stacy Ndiwa rounded up the podium in 34:54.
The men’s under-20 8km race saw Kelvin Kiprop of Central Rift take a commanding win over Franklin Kibet of North Rift who came in second. Emmanuel Lemiso of South Rift completed the podium.
Lorna Cherono of the Magnolia Athletics camp claimed the win in the women’s under-20 6km race as Joyline Chepkemoi of the A.I.C Cheptonon Secondary School finished second. Cynthia Chepkirui of the Lemotit Training Camp finished third.
