The construction of 10 more classrooms pledged by President William Ruto has kicked off at the Mandera Teachers Training College.
President Ruto made the pledge last week during his visit to the county on Tuesday.
The project, directly funded by the Office of the President, is expected to benefit over 500 teacher trainees by easing congestion at the institution.
While laying the foundation stone for the 10 classrooms, Mandera Governor Mohamed Adan Khalif emphasized the importance of completing the project efficiently to enable more students to enroll in the college.
He also highlighted the challenges facing the education sector in the northern region, particularly the mass exodus of teachers due to insecurity.
The college Principal Issack Abdullahi welcomed the project, terming it a game-changer for education in Mandera with students at the institution expressing gratitude to the President for his commitment to improving learning facilities.
During his visit, President Ruto reaffirmed his administration’s focus on strengthening the education sector in the northern region.
