Embu: 68 students are hospitalized after eating and drinking a cow's head soup

Affected students, most of them in form four, suffered severe abdominal pain and diarrhea, a condition that caused a stimulus among the school community.

The Nation reports that the students ate the meat on Wednesday, February 7, after a bull was killed at a mobilization banquet.

While some school pupils enjoyed common parts of meat without problems, fourth -grade students who ate the boiled head became sick later.

The situation intensified on Friday, February 7 am when students began to experience severe abdominal pain and diarrhea.

Teachers intervened quickly and rushed them to Kentiri County Hospital for treatment.

School Principal Paul Mwaniki confirmed that 55 students were treated and allowed with 13 more careful.

Mwaniki explained that of the 13 students, three have been transferred to Embu Referral Hospital while their condition continued to worsen.

“A total of 68 students. They were treated and three of them were referred to the Embu Central Hospital for further treatment they are doing well with treatment and are doing well. The Health of Ketioe for more care, ” Mwaniki explained.

What caused toxicity in the food?

Preliminary studies show the poor handling of the cow's head as a source of contamination.

The headmaster said that the students who ate the remaining cows had no problems.

“No one student eaten the remaining meat, the matter seems to have come from the head, it is a headache that is contaminated due to poor care and that is why fourth -grade students and two teachers were affected,” Mwaniki noted.

Public health officials who visited the school confirmed that sanitation during preparation was likely to be blamed.

“Preliminary investigations have revealed that the head of a cow who was eaten by a few students and two teachers was not properly served. Said Embu Health Executive, Jamal Runyenjes.

Despite this terrible situation, Mwaniki assured parents that the affected students had come out of danger.

Following the incident, health officials have launched a thorough investigation into the school's food security.
