AFC Leopards midfielder Kelly Madada has risked angering his own supporters with teasing comments about sworn rivals Gor Mahia.
Harambee Stars and AFC Leopards wonderkid Kelly Madada has stirred controversy among Ingwe faithful after making eyebrow-raising remarks about the club’s fierce rivals, Gor Mahia.
Madada, who has been making waves with his stellar performances for AFC Leopards since breaking into the first team in December, recently earned a spot in the Harambee Stars squad for the 2025 Mapinduzi Cup.
His meteoric rise has been nothing short of spectacular, as he needed only three consecutive starts in the FKF Premier League to impress interim national team coach Francis Kimanzi.
A number of players made their national team debuts for the side against Burkina Faso last weekend, and Muchiri has now sent them words of advice.
The 18-year-old was also instrumental in Kenya’s qualification for the U-20 AFCON, set to take place in April in Ivory Coast, after playing a key role in Salim Babu’s squad that reached the final of the CECAFA U-20 qualifiers.
Despite his deep connection with AFC Leopards, Madada has risked alienating fans by openly entertaining the possibility of switching allegiance to Gor Mahia in the future.
“When the time is right, why not?” Madada said during a Q&A session on Azam TV’s official TikTok page when asked about a potential move to Gor Mahia.
To further stoke the flames, he named two Gor Mahia players as his favorite to play alongside, hinting at a possible admiration for the Green Army.
“My favorite KPL players I would say are Rooney Onyango ,Alphonce Omija and Austine Odhiambo,” he added.
Both players featured alongside him in the Harambee Stars squad for the Mapinduzi Cup, making it evident that Madada has formed a strong bond with them on the national team stage.
This is not the first time Madada has expressed ambitions of playing beyond AFC Leopards. Following his standout performance against Tusker last December, where he provided two assists in a commanding 4-1 victory, he spoke candidly about using his current platform as a stepping stone for greater achievements.
“I’m ready to keep working hard, delivering for the team, and achieving more milestones,” he stated. “I won’t backslide.

Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga has revealed his ultimate dream as Harambee Stars captain before he calls time on his career.
“I will keep working to better my career. I know I haven’t reached the top yet because there are more experienced players in the club, but I’m giving my all to earn a spot. I’m still learning from the senior players, and it’s a great feeling and opportunity to play alongside them.”
Madada’s remarks have divided opinions among AFC Leopards supporters, with some understanding his professional aspirations given their struggles winning silverware for much of the last 26 years, while others see it as a betrayal of the club’s loyalty.
Only time will tell whether this young prodigy will remain an Ingwe icon or cross the divide to join their most formidable adversaries.
