Why Tusker striker is unlikely to join Algerian club USM Alger

The FKF Premier League’s leading scorer has attracted interest from the Algerian club but he is likely to stay in Kenya over a number of reasons.

Tusker FC striker Ryan Ogam is unlikely to leave in the midseason transfer window despite strong interest from Algerian club USM Alger.

This is because the Brewers have reportedly made a U-turn over their initial decision to allow him to leave midseason after the Algerian side expressed an interest in activating his release clause believed to be close to Ksh4 million.

Tusker were considering the transfer of the young striker, with his parents also in support of the move, but the FKF Premier League club have opted to retain the forward as they challenge for the title in what is a tight race with Kenya Police and by extension Gor Mahia.

Tusker’s Ryan Ogam has set an obliterating goal-target for the club this season despite interest from Algerian outfit.

Ogam’s move to Algeria has also dimmed even further after USM signed Burundian striker Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana early this week. The former Kaizer Chiefs forward has signed a one-and-a-half-year contract with the eight-time Algerian champions to bolster their attack.

It means they are not likely to have room for another striker and it would also be catastrophic for Ogam to move into an environment where there is competition for a starting place, something that could slow down his career.

The 20-year-old has been in scintillating form this season, having netted 15 league goals for Tusker, who are joint top on the FKF Premier League log with 37 points from 19 matches, same as Kenya Police.

Pulse Sports understands the striker has been talked to and convinced to complete the season at Tusker this season after which he can choose from the offers that will be available, while there are also reservations whether North Africa would be ideal for him at this point in his career.

That is good news for coach Charles Okere who had expressed worry over how his side would cope without their talisman.

Ogam is in his first season in the top flight, having joined Tusker from National Super League club Rainbow FC, but has not looked like a newbie on the big stage.
