Simba wa Nairobi may be in the relegation zone but they are smiling to the bank thanks to big-money transfers involving their current and past players.
Nairobi City Stars may be struggling on the pitch but they have had a very good week off it.
City Stars are set to receive close to Ksh25 million thanks to two big-money transfers that have taken place in Kenya and in Europe involving players they have nurtured.
When Harambee Stars midfielder Timothy Ouma finalised his transfer to Czech giants Slavia Prague on Sunday, Simba wa Nairobi were among the teams smiling to the bank as they are entitled to a five percent solidarity payment from the reported Ksh473 million transfer fee.
The FKF Premier League club is set to receive a major windfall following the Harambee Stars midfielder’s Ksh473 million transfer to Czech giants Slavia Prague.
This means City Stars will bank around Ksh23.5 million from Ouma’s transfer to Prague, as per the FIFA regulations which stipulates a five per cent solidarity payment distributed to clubs that developed a player whenever he transfers before he hits 23.
The rule says if the player transfers before the expiration of their contract, a five percent of the transfer fee is allocated to the clubs involved in the player’s training and development from when he was 12 to 23, meaning City Stars will pocket the said amount from the transfer of the 20-year-old to the Czech giants from Swedish club IF Elfsborg.
While City Stars are waiting for the windfall from the Ouma transfer, locally, they are set to receive Ksh1 million from Kenya Police for the transfer of forward Mohammed Bajaber in what is so far the biggest deal of the midseason transfer window.
Police yielded to the demands of City Stars for the sought-after left winger and will now pay the big fee after fending off other suitors for the Harambee Stars forward.
It means City Stars will bank a combined Ksh24.5 million from the two deals which have been completed this week, boosting their coffers.
That will perhaps allow the club to go into the market for some top talents to help them in the second half of the season as they are in the relegation zone on 17 points from 19 matches, same as second from bottom Bidco United and basement side Posta Rangers.
