Tanzanian singer Mbwana Yusuf Kilungi, popularly known as Mbosso, has confirmed the rumors swirling around his complete departure from Diamond Platnumz’s Wasafi Records label after quietly removing the tag from his Instagram bio that stated he was signed under the WCB.
This happened today, Thursday, February 6, 2025, following mixed reactions from his fans on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, after he initially removed the label, then re-uploaded it, only to fully clear it today.
All this unfolds amid growing speculation that the singer has been in a spat with Diamond and that he has fully exited the Bongo Flava record label, which he joined in 2018 shortly after parting ways with Ya Moto Band.
Diamond dispels rumors
While headlining the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party campaign rally yesterday, Wednesday, February 2025, Diamond took time to address the circulating rumors, stating that he had spoken with Mbosso about two weeks ago regarding his exit from the label.
The singer revealed that Mbosso had humbly requested to leave the label as he aspired to grow independently as a solo artiste.
Diamond further added that upon hearing about Mbosso’s plans, he did not oppose them but instead gave him his full blessings, as he was one of the few artistes who had consistently shown him respect throughout their musical careers.
Support
The Bongo Flava icon, who has recently been making waves due to his role in the newly released Netflix show Young, Famous & African, noted that he would continue standing by Mbosso and offering him a shoulder to lean on whenever he needed it.
Diamond even referred to Mbosso as family and revealed that he had turned down a hefty sum of money that the Bongo Mani hitmaker had offered him for breaching his contract with Wasafi Records.
He went on to add that he was ready to take on anyone who dared to challenge Mbosso and emphasized that the waiver he had granted for contract termination fees was an offer he wouldn’t extend to just anyone—it was exclusive to Mbosso alone.

Dark past
Back in 2018, the singer went viral after breaking down in tears when he was informed that his bid to join WCB Wasafi had been approved.
This emotional moment followed his earlier revelation that after leaving Ya Moto Band, he had resorted to playing football and had little hope of ever making a comeback in the music industry.
During this time, former labelmate Rich Mavoko reached out to him for a collaboration, and from that point on, his career took a significant turn, ultimately skyrocketing him to the upper echelons of Tanzania’s music industry.
“It is Rich Mavoko that took me from home when I was playing football. I cried during my unveiling as a Wasafi artiste because of the dark past. I had no management and was not getting shows either,” Mbosso recalled during an interview with a local Tanzanian radio station.
