Marcell Jacobs has reflected on his fourth-place finish behind Noah Lyles at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix as he aims for redemption at the Millrose Games.
Former Olympic 100m champion Marcell Jacobs has reacted to his performance at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix on Sunday, February 2.
Marcell Jacobs is one of the most impressive indoor runners but has faced a series of setbacks in the recent past. He hopes to address all his issues this season but has expressed worry following his loss to Noah Lyles.
He went to the event hoping for better results but could only afford a fourth-place finish in a time of 6.63 seconds. Noah Lyles claimed top honours in the race, clocking a season-best time of 6.52 seconds.
Faith Kipyegon, Letsile Tebogo and Algerian boxer Imane Khelif will be honoured at a prestigious event in Algiers in March.
Terrence Jones and PJ Austin came in second and third, clocking respective times of 6.57 seconds and 6.60 seconds.
Jacobs explained that he wanted better results but after his performance in Boston, he will go back to the drawing board and address a few things before his next race.
He will be competing at the Millrose Games on February 8 where he hopes to redeem himself and increase his chances of performing better outdoors.
“Starting over means getting back in the game, testing sensations, and understanding what to work on. Today, I expected something different, but every season has its own path—sometimes you start uphill, other times downhill,” Jacobs penned in a post on X handle.
“The 6.63 in Boston @NBIndoorGP doesn’t reflect the times I was hitting in training, where I expected to be around 6.50.
“There are some details to fine-tune, but the path is set. 💪🏽. 📌 Next stop: New York. Time to run for the times I know I’m capable of.”
Olympic champion Gabby Thomas is relieved after a potential breakthrough in alleged airport stalking incident.
As he prepared for title defence at the Paris Olympic Games, Marcell Jacobs made a significant change including relocating from Rome, Italy to a gated community in Jacksonville, Florida.
He also started working with a new coach, Rana Reider at the Tumbleweed Track Club.
The Paris Olympics did not go as expected as Jacobs was forced to settle for a distant fifth in 9.85 seconds in the men’s 100m final. Italy’s men’s 4x100m relay team finished fourth in the final.
Kishane Thompson started his season clocking 6.48 seconds into a -2.0 headwind, a time that suggests strong early-season form. However, his race execution has drawn scrutiny.
Coming into the 2025 season, Marcell Jacobs wants to go back to the top in sprinting as he strongly believes the indoor races are the way to go.
He has yet to win an individual gold medal at the World Championships and the global showpiece in Tokyo, Japan would be a great opportunity for him to display his prowess.
