President William Ruto on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, gave Ksh1 million to students at Mandera Teachers Training College for lunch.
Speaking at the institution, the president issued the money to the school president for lunch for the rest of the school.
“Who is the president of this school?” Ruto posed before one of the students rushed to the podium.
“Hawa wadosi kwa sababu nimefika area, nitakupatia shilingi millioni moja uwanunulie lunch,” Ruto added, to which the crowd burst into cheers.
The president also promised the students that he will construct a new classroom for them before the year ends, to ensure they have a good place to stay.
“I will give instructions to the Ministry of Housing so that we can build the first block that will house at least 500 students here; and I want that block to be completed before the end of this year so that the students coming to school next year have a good place to stay,” the president said.
He emphasized his aim to enhance infrastructure in learning institutions and recruit more teachers in the North Eastern region to improve access to education.
“We are enhancing infrastructure in learning institutions and recruiting more teachers in the North Eastern region just as we are doing across the country to improve access to education.
“This will ensure learners have equal opportunities, foster equity and ensure that no one is left behind,” the president added.
