Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to contest for the Chairman of the African Union (AUC) is continuing to gain influence, with the support of Kenyan leaders first and several African heads of state.
Led by President William Ruto, officials have expressed Raila's faith and victory, predicting a landslide victory in the elections scheduled for February 2025.
Speaking at Citizen TV on Sunday, February 2, Environment Minister Aden Duale He confirmed Raila's documents as Pan-Africanist, emphasizing that his campaign was consistent and well implemented.
“Raila wins. Why do you want him to lose? The kind of campaign that President Ruto has made our candidate shows how important this office is for Kenya. Raila has made enough foundation – the nine country's trophies were here last week, and they all confirmed their votes, ” Duale said.
He also dismissed allegations that some political giants were hesitant to see Raila abandon the politics of the country, claiming his departure could disrupt a particular profession.
“There are people who use Raila as Guinea pigs in local politics. Without him, some political disciplines will collapse,” he added.
How many presidents support Raila Odinga?
Duale revealed that Raila had fully collaborated with approximately 40 of the 49 countries, and obtained the necessary consent. He emphasized that the former prime minister needed at least 32 votes to grab the position.
“In addition to six banned voting nations, Raila has visited approximately 40 nations. He is already supported by at least 11 African Nations,” noted.
In addition, Duale ignored concerns that the ongoing conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) could affect Raila's position, emphasizing that President Felix Tshisekedi's vote remains one of the majority.
With the growing support from African leaders with a well -coordinated campaign, Raila's path to the AUC chair seems to be much better.
What countries have vowed to support Raila's intention?
Within the East African Community, Raila has received support from Kenya, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.
In West Africa, he has received the support of eight Ecowas nations, including Togo, NigeriaGambia, Senegal, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, and Côte d'Ivoire.
More than member states of EACEritrea is the only country from the Government Development Community (IGAD) which has promised to support Raila Odinga in his AUC chair.
