Homa Bay – A small neighborhood of Samba has suffered shock and sadness after a sad story at the Ebenezer SDA church, where the elder stabbed his fellow altar during the Sabbath service on Saturday, February 1.

How old Francis Opiyo was killed

The deceased, Francis Opiyo, had finished announcing the church reports when Felix Ocholla, his elder, pulled out a knife hidden in his Bible and stabbed him in the stomach.

The incident, allegedly caused by allegations of romantic relationships outside of marriage, occurred during a church service in Ramoya Village, Samba Sub-Lucation, South Suba County.

Opiyo's wife said they had attended the ritual as usual, without expecting the tragedy.

“We went to church as usual, not knowing what was coming. Suddenly, he stood up, pulled out a knife out of his pocket, then stabbed my husband in the stomach before escaping. My husband was able to take only two steps before falling,” He narrated.

Opiyo was rushed to Magunga Level Four Hospital, where he was declared dead when he arrived.

Samba deputy chief Lucas Onyango, explained that he was informed of the incident by his son, who told him that Ocholla was looking for him.

When he came out, he met the suspect in a clear fear. After questioning her, Ocholla admitted that he had stabbed a knife during what he called minor controversy.

“The suspect approached me with a lot of anxiety and confessed that he was involved in an altercation and wounded someone. Onyango said.

On the way, another resident arrived with sad news that Opiyo had died of injuries.

Meanwhile, when the residents of Opiyo's death knew about his death, they burned the house in Ocholla.

Onyango expressed his surprise about the act of retaliation, saying:

“I was informed that his house was burned after residents realized that Opiyo was not alive. I wondered if the house was also wrong.”

South Suba Sub -County Police Commander, Caxton Ndunda, confirmed the incident, indicating that a long -standing violence between the two seniors It was probably the source of that bad controversy.

“He had to seek mediation from the elders of the clan or the leadership of the church instead of using violence,” Ndunda said.

Onyango condemned the attack and urged residents to resolve conflicts in peaceful ways, emphasizing that violence often brings serious harm to all parties.
