Aircraft accident in Naivasha kills 2 people

The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has confirmed two persons on board lost their lives following the tragic aircraft accident at Kedong Ranch in Naivasha Nakuru County.

In an official statement dated Friday, January 31, 2025, the Aviation Authority stated that the accident involving a Cessna 185 (5Y-BVL) occurred on Thursday evening, January 30, 2025, at around 05:14 pm.

“Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) regrets to confirm that an aircraft accident occurred late yesterday at Kedong Ranch, Naivasha, involving a Cessna 185 aircraft, registration SY-BVL.

“There were two persons on board (POB: 02), both of whom have unfortunately lost their lives. Preliminary reports indicate that the accident occurred at approximately 17:14,” KCAA’s statement said.

In addition, KCAA revealed that the aircraft had departed from Wilson Airport and was en route to Mbaruk airstrip in Mara Conservancy.

“The flight had departed from Wilson Airport and was en route to Mbaruk. The initial information was reported by a member of the public to the Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC), “KCAA added.

Condoling the family of the deceased, KCAA General Director Emile N Arao disclosed that investigations are ongoing in coordination with relevant authorities to certain the cause of the accident.

“KCAA is actively coordinating with relevant authorities, including the Air Accident Investigation Department (AAID), emergency responders, and local security personnel, to gather further details and facilitate response efforts.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims,”KCAA General Director Emile N Arao said.

Aircraft accidents in Kenya

On Tuesday, March 5, 2024, the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority confirmed the occurrence of the incident after two planes collided mid-air in Nairobi.

“Kenya Civil Aviation Authority wishes to confirm that an aircraft accident occurred at 10:05 hrs involving a Cessna aircraft belonging to Ninety-Nines Flying School and a Dash 8 belonging to SAtal-link Aviation Limited.

“Investigations have commenced through various agencies led by the Air Accident Investigation Department (MID) and the National Police Service to establish the cause of the accident.

“Safety of the public, property, and operations remains paramount to the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority,” KCAA said.

According to Safarilink, a plane that was headed to Diani experienced a loud bang shortly after taking off, and the crew had to turn to Wilson Airport.

“Safarilink Aviation wishes to report that this morning at 9:45 local time, our flight number 053, with 39 passengers and 5 crew on board headed to Diani, experienced a loud bang soon after take-off.

“The crew decided to immediately turn back to Nairobi-Wilson Airport for further inspection and assessment and landed safely. There were no casualties reported,” Safarilink explained.
