Kakamega Homeboyz coach Francis Baraza remains adamant that his side deserved the win in stalemate against Gor Mahia.
FKF Premier League defending champions Gor Mahia were left counting their lucky stars after managing to secure a point in their goalless draw against Kakamega Homeboyz on Sunday.
The record champions avoided defeat by the slimmest of margins, highlighting their struggles in front of goal.
The match proved to be a stern test for Gor Mahia, with Homeboyz coming close to snatching victory on multiple occasions.
Pius Wangi rattled the woodwork twice, nearly breaking the deadlock, while Moses Shumah thought he had given Homeboyz the lead in the 78th minute, only for his goal to be ruled offside.
Gor Mahia team manager Victor Nyaoro explains that K’Ogallo will fight until the end in order to defend their title and are unfazed by the threat posed by Police and Tusker.
Homeboyz head coach Francis Baraza was adamant that his side deserved more from the encounter.
Speaking to Azam TV in his post-match interview, Baraza expressed his disappointment over the disallowed goal but acknowledged Gor Mahia’s resilience.
“I can’t say much because everyone saw it. The goal we scored was a clean goal. Our striker was onside and attacked the ball correctly,” said Baraza.
“However, I commend Gor Mahia; they gave us a tough battle. It was a good game even for the fans, though we lacked one thing—putting the ball in the back of the net,” he added.
Gor Mahia are rumored to be in talks with Ugandan striker Charles Bbaale plying his trade in the Rwandan league.
For Homeboyz, it was a case of missed opportunities, while Gor Mahia will feel relieved to have escaped with a point despite their underwhelming display.
The result keeps Gor Mahia in third place with 28 points, trailing second-placed Tusker, who have 36 points and are level with league leaders Kenya Police.
Homeboyz, on the other hand, sit in ninth place with 23 points.
The lack of a clinical edge in the final third has been a significant concern for Gor Mahia this season, especially following the departure of prolific forward Benson Omala to Lebanese side Al-Safa.
The youngster expressed his ambition to play for K’Ogalo if a chance presented itself to him but that innocent admission has not been taken lightly by the Ingwe faithful.
Coupled with the lackluster campaign of Congolese striker, Gedeon Bendeka whom was brought in to fill his boots, the side have struggled to consistently find the back of the net.
In a bid to bolster their attacking options, the club is reportedly eyeing Ugandan striker Charles Bbaale, who is currently out of contract with Rwandan side Rayon Sports.
As the champions seek to mount a successful title defense, acquiring a lethal finisher in front of goal will be crucial.
