Letsile Tebogo on the moment he almost shocked Rai Benjamin during epic 4 x 400m Paris Olympic final

Letsile Tebogo recalls the moment he caught everyone by surprise challenging Rai Benjamin during the anchor leg of the 4 x 400m relay at the Paris Olympics.

Letsile Tebogo has disclosed the one thing that got people talking at the Paris Olympic Games, and it is not the gold medal in the 200m.

Tebogo clocked an African record time of 19.46 seconds to claim top honours in the hotly contested race that included the reigning world champion, Noah Lyles.

Kenny Bednarek and Noah Lyles were displaced to second and third places respectively. However, that was not something that shocked his family, fans and friends.

Letsile Tebogo reflected on his career’s turning point, winning his first global gold in Nairobi.

Tebogo disclosed that running the 4x400m relay race and winning silver for Team Botswana was the most surprising since people thought he was not that good as a 400m runner, but the good thing is that he proved them wrong.

He revealed that everyone who called him was surprised at how he was able to run the anchor leg of the 4x400m and also threaten Rai Benjamin who had just won the 400m hurdles title.

Letsile Tebogo revealed that having the belief in training and knowing that he had to show up and execute the race as instructed were the things he implemented to shock the whole world and get people talking.

“I think the craziest thing was that everybody was shocked that I ran the 4x400m the following day, that’s the craziest thing I could think of,” Letsile Tebogo revealed in an interview with SportingAlert.com.

“I got the calls, I got everything about it and people were asking how I managed to do something like that. people were asking how I ran an African record and then the following day I split the fastest time.

“It was really crazy…I just believed in everything we did in training and just executed everything perfectly.”

After the Olympic Games, he did not rest on his laurels as he went on to claim a series of Diamond League Meeting victories before rounding up his season at the final in Brussels, Belgium.

Letsile Tebogo now looks forward to continuing his strong form this season, having already been confirmed for two meets, the Maurie Plant Meet in Melbourne where he will race the 400m and the Diamond League Meeting in Xiamen where he will most likely compete in the 100m.
