‘I’m not leaving until…’- When Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce explained huge reason why she is not considering retirement yet

When Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce explained the conditions upon which she would finally retire amid talk of being “too old”.

At 38, Jamaican sprint legend Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce wants to continue defying the odds and has detailed some of the factors that have helped her grow to become one of the best female sprinters over the years.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce revealed that her life’s journey has strongly been inspired by her belief in God and throughout the years, being deeply rooted in the word of God has been essential for her longevity in her career.

The 10-time world champion further explained that she will only think about hanging her spikes after accomplishing everything she wants.


Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce praises her husband Jayson for his gentle, caring nature and not minding about gender roles to accommodate her busy career.


Shelly-Ann added that with God’s guidance, she will know when to finally hang her spikes.

“My confidence comes from God…it’s the word of God, I’ve always believed that when He says I’m fearfully and wonderfully made, that’s what he means. I know that what He starts, he always finishes,” Shelly-Ann told NBC’s Mary Omatiga in an interview.

“I don’t trust in anything else but the word of God and I know He guides me. It’s also coupled with the fact that I’m stubborn and very stubborn. I don’t take no for an answer and I’m very competitive and I’m not leaving until I get my way.”

Jodean Williams stunned Shericka Jackson with a personal best win in the women’s 60m at the Queen’s Grace Jackson Invitational.


She added that people have tried talking her into retirement and advised that she tries to venture into different things but she explained that her resilience would not allow her to give up her career just like that.

Coupled with a lot of challenges from injuries to motherhood, Shelly-Ann is not planning to give up on her career anytime soon.

“That’s essentially who I am in a nutshell…I don’t care what it looks like, I don’t care what you heard and I don’t care about any of those things. What matters is what I believe…I keep showing up every day in training,” she added.

The three-time Olympic champion has enjoyed a career spanning over 10 decades and despite the uncertainty surrounding her return to the track this season, Shelly-Ann will want to exit with a bang.

There have been signs of her training but she has yet to be confirmed for any event. Her fans are eagerly waiting on her return as she waits upon God for the final say.
