Migori streamlines local revenue collection – Kenya News Agency

Migori County will see its coffers increase after the introduction of a series of streamlined revenue collection measures in the Boda Boda sector.

According to John Kobado, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Public Service Management and Devolution, the boda boda sector in the three Sub counties of Uriri, Suna East, and Suna West has not been fully remitting its revenue because of taxes and cess exemptions.

Kobado who met with boda boda officials, explained that they had agreed on a mechanism to ensure the sector is streamlined to align with the revenue collection policies.

The official however affirmed that the discussion with the boda boda officials was fruitful, adding it was resolved to resume remitting revenue immediately to help generate more resources to improve the county’s social amenities.

James Kamala, the Chair, Uriri Sub-County Boda boda association assured the county government that riders were committed to complying with the new tax payment agreement.

Kamala however, disclosed some of the challenges that have previously hindered tax collection, including employment-related issues among boda boda operators in the county.

He called upon Governor Ochilo Ayacko to include the youth, especially from the boda boda sector, in his government to reduce the county’s unemployment rate.
