Masai Russell has outlined how she plans to execute her 2025 campaign after electrifying season opener.

Fresh off her triumphant gold medal win at the 2024 Paris Olympics, sprint hurdler Masai Russell is setting the tone for an ambitious 2025 campaign.

The track star recently opened up about her goals for the new season in the third episode of her Momentum series.

“What I’m expecting from indoor is to make sure I have clean races and execute well. I want to win, of course, and I also want to build off where I was last year—mentally, physically, and in every competition,” shared Russell.

“My goal is to keep that same momentum I brought from the Olympics and carry it into this year,” she added.

Olympic champion Masai Russell is fired up for the 2025 season after electrifying season opener in the 60m hurdles in Texas.

Russell kicked off her 2025 season at the Rod McCravy Memorial on January 11, competing in the 4x400m relay. This event served as a warm-up for the year, setting the stage for her return to the hurdles, her signature event.

On January 17, Russell competed in her first hurdles event of the year at the Texas Tech Corky Classic, held at the Sports Performance Center in Texas.

She made an impressive statement by dominating the 60m hurdles, clocking in at 7.89 seconds to defeat her fierce competitor Devynne Charlton.

Russell has been clear about her approach to the season of staying grounded and focused on her own performance rather than external pressures.

'I pray it's my last one'- Masai Russell kicks-off season with uncharacteristic event as she announces next stop

Russell has announced her next stop after kicking off her season with an uncharacteristic 4x400m relay.

“Heading into this season I haven’t really thought about any added pressure or stress. I’ve just been really focused on what I’m doing, staying committed to my training regimen, and concentrating on everything I’ve been practicing,” she noted.

“I don’t want to get caught up in what other people expect of me or think of me, so I try to keep the main thing the main thing—focusing on my performance and being able to lock in when it matters most.”

While Russell has her eyes on records and titles, she’s equally focused on testing her limits and seeing how far she can push herself.

“Going into this indoor season, it’s not about trying to take anything from anybody. It’s more about seeing how far I can push myself,” expressed Russell.

Masai Russell, Josh Kerr & Co in line for lucrative world record bonus at Millrose Games

Olympics medalists Masai Russell, Josh Kerr and Jessica Hull are among runners who will be looking to break the world record at the Millrose Games and there is a hefty bonus for it.

“Whether that means running 7.60, 7.59, or 7.58—whatever it is, that’s what I’m meant to do. Of course, I want the records, but more than that, I want the titles,” she added.

As the season progresses, Russell will face strong competition from some of the world’s best hurdlers, including Cyréna Samba-Mayela, Ackera Nugent, and Jasmine Camacho-Quinn.

With a strong start and an unwavering focus, Russell’s 2025 campaign promises to be one to watch.
