- The deacon of the church turned into a land fraud suspect
- DCI and Buruburu police officers arrested Reverend Peter Kinuthia Waithunguri in the ACK Buruburu area for allegedly defrauding a 75-year-old lady of her farm
- The clueless lady, Margaret Watiri, lost her property after trusting a pastor to help pay off a loan, only to discover that he had used it as collateral.
- Despite the court ruling in his favor, the suspect refused to return the property, leaving him homeless and fearing for his life
Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department and officers from the Buruburu Police Station raided the ACK Buruburu church and arrested Pastor Peter Kinuthia Waithunguri.
Waithunguri is accused of illegally occupying a piece of land belonging to 75-year-old Margaret Watiri Ndung'u, making her homeless.
How Bibi Watiri met Pastor Waithunguri
A surprised pastor in the church told TUKO.co.ke that the suspect is a deacon, but no leader was aware of that side of him.
According to Detective Jane Mugoh, it all started when Bibi Watiri was in trouble due to a KSh 670,000 loan she owed from Mwananchi Credit.
Eager to repay the loan and regain his title, he was introduced to Waithunguri, who offered to help him pay off the debt.
“He was registered with documents confirming that he agreed to the debtor giving the title to Waithunguri,” Jane Mugoh said.
How Watiri found out that his land has been changed ownership
The truth came to light when the SGR railway passed through the land and the National Land Commission issued compensation.
Watiri discovered, while pursuing the compensation, that the land he claimed to own belonged to someone else and had a pending loan.
Waithunguri was called in the office DCI and he admitted that he used the land as collateral, which made the lady file a lawsuit in court.
Documents seen by TUKO.co.ke show that the judge ruled in his favor, but the suspect did not submit the title as ordered.
Waithunguri did not comment
Detective Mugoh added that the suspect is suspected of cooperating with land gangs and evil police in transferring ownership of land and vehicles from unsuspecting victims.
Watiri claims that he has been receiving threats and being followed by suspicious people since the court decision last year, 2024. He is currently homeless.
Homeless and hopeless, the lady sought help from a private investigator, who engaged police officers to arrest the suspect.
“Police from Isinya and Buruburu stations, along with my team from Trimo Securitythey followed the suspect to the church,” Mugoh said.
He emphasized that this is not the first case in which the suspect is accused, as he owns a car yard where he sells cars seized from his victims.
Efforts to get comments from the suspect were unsuccessful as his calls were not received.
