Olympic champion Gabby Thomas has shared her reaction to the newly-formed women’s basketball league.
American sprint queen Gabby Thomas, a three-time gold medalist at the Paris 2024 Olympics, shared her enthusiasm for the newly-launched women’s basketball league, Unrivaled.
Thomas attended the league’s debut in Miami, where top WNBA stars showcased their skills in the innovative 3v3 format.
Sharing her thoughts on Instagram, Thomas wrote, “Came for the talent, stayed for the vibes 🏀 💖.”
Gabby Thomas has explained why the female sprint scene needs to take a page out of their male counterparts playbook.
She also participated in a creative challenge, where attendees were asked to describe the league in one word. For Thomas, that word was “Innovation,” aligning with the league’s groundbreaking vision for women’s basketball.
Unrivaled is the brainchild of US Olympians Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart. The league will feature six teams, each with six players.
The format aims to bring a fresh, dynamic energy to professional women’s basketball, providing more opportunities for athletes to showcase their talent in an engaging and fan-friendly environment.
Thomas’ appearance at the event highlights her commitment to championing innovation in sports. Known for her versatility and relentless drive, she had an unforgettable 2024 season, clinching three gold medals at the Paris Olympics in the 200m, 4x100m relay, and 4x400m relay.
Gabby Thomas has reflected on the dynamics of rivalry with fellow American sprint queen Sha’Carri Richardson.
She joined forces with US sprint stars Sha’Carri Richardson, Twanisha Terry, and Melissa Jefferson in the 4x100m, as well as Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Shamier Little, and Alexis Holmes in the 4x400m.
Looking ahead, Thomas is preparing for another groundbreaking venture as she gears up for the inaugural Grand Slam Track season.
The innovative league, founded by American track legend Michael Johnson, promises to revolutionize track and field competitions in a manner similar to Unrivaled’s impact on basketball.
Gabby Thomas has highlighted the importance of discipline over flashiness, using Noah Lyles as an example of true success.
As both an athlete and advocate for progress in sports, Thomas continues to inspire by supporting initiatives that push the boundaries of tradition. Her presence at the Unrivaled debut not only celebrated the league’s potential but also underscored her commitment to advancing women’s sports on a global stage.
