The President further warned his former deputy that his political remarks would not be dismissed and that he would indulge in his supposed efforts to divide the country on regional and ethnic lines.

But in his rebuttal a day later, Gachagua said that Ruto is not a saint and that he was using reverse psychology to avoid the responsibility that Kenyans hold him to.

Talking to his followers through TikTokthe former vice president claimed that his one-time boss oversees excessive corruption in the government, suggesting that it is hypocritical for him to call other leaders the same vice.

The day, however, would not end before Ruto responded in Busia.

In a public meeting in Alupe, the president told Gachagua that he did not have the ability to teach him about governance, but he failed in his role as the country's second deputy president.

“Those incompetent, tribal, selfish and corrupt leaders have no place in this country, that's why we chased those who tried, they were removed because of corruption, theft, tribalism and negative aspects of an individual. The forest wants to give us lectures on how Kenya should go, where I will remain strong and no one will divide Kenyans about hatred and ethnicity. We are all united and we are one country.” Ruto scolded him.

Will Mount Kenya help Ruto win the vote again?

Earlier, Gachagua advised Ruto not to count Mount Kenya among his voting strongholds.

The Mt Kenya area contributed greatly to Ruto's victory in the 2022 vote, and elevated him to the presidency against Raila Odingawho was supported by the government.

Of the 7.1 million votes in which Ruto was declared the winner, Mount Kenya contributed 3.5 million.

Ruto voted with Gachagua as his running mate; the latter has seen himself as a criterion for victory in Ruto's campaigns.

Two years into their joint leadership, differences began between the two, which could not be resolved and led to Gachagua being impeached in October 2024.

Speaking to his followers in a live TikTok session, Gachagua announced that the populous region will no longer support Ruto.

He said Ruto will not succeed in any efforts to pacify Mount Kenya, including giving government appointments to locals.

According to him, Ruto deceived Mount Kenya by approving his impeachment; the region is now out of making new political friendships apart from the president.
