This is how Talanta Sports City looks like so far ever since construction began in March 2024.
Preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) are well underway, with Talanta Sports City taking shape as Kenya, alongside co-hosts Uganda and Tanzania, gears up for the continental showpiece.
The 60,000-seater stadium, located at the Jamhuri Grounds along Ngong Road in Nairobi, is set to meet its completion deadline of December 2025.
The groundbreaking ceremony for Talanta Sports City was held on March 1, 2024, officiated by President William Ruto.
Sports CS Salim Mvurya has provided an update over the renovations of the Bukhungu and Kipchoge Keino stadia.
Initially, the project was expected to be completed by December 2025, with a potential extension to March 2026. However, ongoing efforts at the site suggest that construction is on track to meet the earlier deadline.
The facility is being built by the China Road and Bridge Corporation under the supervision of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports. This marks the first brand-new international-standard stadium constructed by the Kenyan government since Nyayo National Stadium (1983) and Kasarani Stadium (1987).
