Letsile Tebogo leaves Noah Lyles, Kenny Bednarek & Co guessing with his imminent big announcement

The Botswana sprinter has left his track rivals guessing his next move after announcing that he is set to reveal some big news.

Olympics 200m champion Letslie Tebogo was no doubt one of the athletes of 2024 and this was confirmed when he was crowned the World Athletics Male Athlete of the Year.

The Botswana sprinter claimed Olympics gold against the odds, stunning world champion Noah Lyles, while leaving Kenny Bednarek in his wake, and he is looking to show his rivals dust again in 2025.

Already, the 21-year-old has been confirmed for the Maurie Plant Meet, a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting, set to take place in Melbourne, Australia on March 29.

But as he prepares and looks forward to the event, it seems there is more up his sleeves which might leave his track rivals quacking in their spikes.

“Just can’t wait to announce this big news,” Tebogo posted on X on Thursday, leaving his fans speculating what he is set to make public.

Whatever it is, it will surely get the attention as Tebogo has become one of the revered sprinters thanks to his success at the Olympics and also the Diamond League meetings last year.

Having ran the fifth fastest time in the history of 200m, after clocking 19.46 at the Olympics, Tebogo, whose 100m personal best is 9.86, and holds the 300m world record of 30.69 set in South Africa in 2024, will be contesting the 400m in Melbourne as he runs Down Under for the first time.

“I will be stepping up to the challenge of the 400m. Starting the season with this long-distance challenge will set the stage for what’s ahead. I’m ready to push my limits and make every moment count,” he said as per World Athletics.

Olympic 200m champion Letsile Tebogo is expected to make his debut in Xiamen but has his work cut out considering the stack field he will face. Will Botswana’s finest prevail?

Tebogo, who has a 400m personal best of PB of 44.29, will run alongside his Paris Olympics 4x400m relay silver medal team-mates Bayapo Ndori, Leungo Scotch and Victor Ntweng.
