The family of Matthew Nyamlori, who bravely faced cancer, has appealed to the public to help pay his hospital bill so that his body can be released.
How much is Nyamlori hospital debt?
Blasio Oking Nyamlori, the late Nyamlori's brother, has asked for the public's help to pay the hospital's remaining debt of KSh 165,000 in order to achieve the release of his body in preparation for the funeral.
Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Blasio explained in detail the financial situation and their urgent need for help.
“The total debt was KSh 1,539,435. Nyamlori's private insurance paid KSh 700,000, and SHA paid KSh 53,760. We were left with a balance of KSh 785,475. We talked to the hospital, and they wrote off KSh 150,000, leaving us with a balance of KSh 470,000 which as a family we have been able to pay. ” Blasio explained.
Blasio explained that the remaining amount is urgently needed, and they have already started receiving help from philanthropists.
“Now, the remaining balance is KSh 165,000, which we are trying to collect as soon as possible to get him out. TikTokwe have already received KSh 31,000. We want to get him out. We are planning to transfer the body to Kenyatta University mortuary,” he added.
The Nyamlori family and the challenges of paying the hospital debt
Matthew was admitted to the Aga Khan Hospital, Poisonousbefore being transferred to the Nairobi center when his condition worsened for further treatment.
His family has struggled to pay off the debt, but the remaining amount has been a big challenge for them.
Legacy of Matthew Nyamlori
Nyamlori won national respect for his perseverance, after taking the KCPE exam nine times to get a scholarship for secondary studies.
Her efforts were rewarded when she received Equity Wings to Fly funding and later graduated from Kenyatta University with a degree in Public Administration and Policy in 2021.
Matthew was diagnosed with stage three stomach cancer in October 2023, and underwent extensive treatment.
Despite those efforts, he passed away on January 20, 2025, leaving behind an inspiring story of perseverance and hope.
The family wants KSh 15 million to treat two brothers
In other news, TUKO.co.ke reported that a family in Nairobi was asking for financial assistance to raise KSh 15 million for medical treatment.
Josdavis Ochola and his wife Mercy Nicole asked philanthropists to contribute to the treatment of their two children, Zoriel Derrick and Nisha Helida, who are suffering from tuberculosis.
The hereditary disease has caused their family great pain and stress, especially after Zoriel's poor health condition in early 2024.
