On Monday, January 20, national newspapers reported extensively on President William Ruto's response following the remarks of Uhuru Kenyatta for the Gen Z generation.
Newspapers also reported on former Internal Security Minister Fred Matiang'i's ambition to run for the presidency in 2027.
1. Daily Nation
This newspaper reported on the important role of the former president, Uhuru Kenyatta, in motivating the ambition of the former Minister of Internal Security, Fred Matiang'i, to run for the presidency in 2027.
The retired president's allies said Uhuru has a plan to support Matiang'i to remove the current president from power. William Ruto.
One Uhuru Jubilee party leader said the retired president is coordinating everything, including communicating with other leaders to support Matiang'i.
The official said Uhuru has already contacted some ODM leaders to encourage them to support the former Internal Security Minister.
“As things stand, Matiang'i is the presidential candidate of the Jubilee Party in 2027. These are coordinated plans. Uhuru is trying to unite the opposition to support Matiang'i. He is in charge of all these plans,” he said.
Secretary General of Jubilee, Jeremiah Kioni, confirmed that negotiations are in advanced stages to form a solid alliance to fight Ruto in 2027.
He said the Uhuru party is working closely with Matiang'i, the leader of Wiper Kalonzo MusyokaEugene Wamalwa, George Natembeya, and Okiya Omtatah.
“We are working with Matiang'i, Kalonzo (Musyoka), (Eugene) Wamalwa, (George) Natembeya, (Okiya) Omtatah… basically with all leaders who believe that change is important. What I can confirm to you is that coalition building is ongoing, and the desire to cooperate is there—and every Kenyan who feels that change is important, but the role of each of us will be decided by Kenyans themselves,” said Kioni.

This newspaper reported how President William Ruto responded to the remarks of his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta, about the activism of the Gen Z generation.
Speaking in Bungoma county on Sunday, January 19, Ruto indirectly denied Uhuru's appeal to the youth, saying it was “inciting.”
According to Ruto, responsible leaders should encourage young people to take the opportunities offered by their government instead of encouraging them.
“These Kenyan youth do not need violence, they do not need confrontation. They need opportunities, jobs to share business [na] that is what we should do as leaders instead of inciting them to violence, destruction, and many things that do not solve their problem and the problem of the country,” said President Ruto.

Kiswahili newspaper reported on the brutal killing of Molo activist, Richard Raymond Otieno, popularly known as Prezident, who died on Saturday night, January 19.
Molo Member of Parliament, Kuria Kimani, confirmed the incident and said that Raymond was found dead outside his rented house.
According to Kuria, initial reports indicate that the activist was attacked by unknown people who seriously injured him.
“Unconfirmed reports indicate that Raymond met his death in mysterious circumstances the previous night, and his body was found outside the gate of his rented house. Although the circumstances surrounding this brutal murder are still unclear, it is alleged that Raymond was on his way home when unknown assailants confronted him and attacked him, seriously injuring him and causing his death,” said Kimani.

This newspaper reported the plans of the former Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua, to remove Ruto from power in 2027.
During the Church Service at PCEA Emmanuel Matanya, Waguthiru Parish, Laikipia East Constituency, Laikipia County, Sunday, January 19, Gachagua accused President William Ruto of betraying Mt. Kenya.
Gachagua said that in 2027, he will lead the region to form a government with leaders who respect the Mt Kenya region.
“If God agrees, I will lead Mt. Kenya region to enter the government. That will be a government that respects the people of Mount Kenya and serves them. And that will come true. We have the population, what we need is unity and true friends,” said Gachagua.

Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi said President William Ruto should not be blamed for the delay in setting up the electoral commission.
Mudavadi said the people who went to court about the creation of IEBC they should be blamed for the delay in having the commission.
“People talk and the things they say are not true. They say the President is responsible for the delay,” said Mudavadi.
Speaking in Cheptais, Bungoma County, during a religious prayer service, Mudavadi said those who went to court should withdraw their cases.
“There are those who went to court and not Ruto's government. The president is a person who cannot break the law. Those who went to court should be blamed for the delay,” he said.
