Ryan Ogam’s goalscoring heroics help Tusker end dismal run against Gor Mahia

Tusker end bad run against Gor Mahia with a famous 2-1 victory over their competitive rivals in Machakos.

Tusker FC finally ended their streak of defeats at the hands of Gor Mahia, as the 12-time FKFPL champions secured a dramatic 2-1 victory in their league clash at the Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos, on Sunday afternoon.

Ryan Ogam, who has been in electrifying form this season, emerged as the hero for the Brewers, scoring twice, including a stoppage-time winner, to seal a hard-fought victory over their arch-rivals.

The game began at a measured pace, with both sides struggling to carve out clear-cut chances. Tusker saw two early efforts from distance comfortably handled by Gor Mahia’s goalkeeper, Brian Opondo.

However, the visitors were dealt an early blow in the 32nd minute when Mike Oduor had to be substituted following a concussion. Dennis Wanjala came on as his replacement and wasted no time making an impact, threading a pass to Ogam moments later. Unfortunately, the striker’s shot was deflected and safely gathered by the keeper.

After a goalless first half, the deadlock was broken just five minutes after the interval. Substitute Dennis Oguta picked out Ogam with a precise pass, and the in-form forward showed his class, beating the keeper with his first touch before slotting the ball into the net with his second. The goal marked Ogam’s 14th of the season and gave Tusker a crucial lead.

Gor Mahia responded by making a triple substitution in the 64th minute, bringing on Enoch Morrison, Samuel Onyango, and Bryson Wangai.

The changes paid dividends almost immediately as Austin Odhiambo produced a moment of magic. In the 69th minute, Odhiambo curled a stunning free kick from 25 yards out to level the score at 1-1.

However, Gor Mahia’s joy was short-lived, as Odhiambo was forced off with an injury just ten minutes later, with Gedeon Bendeka taking his place.

Deep into stoppage time, Tusker earned a free kick in a dangerous position, and it was Dennis Wanjala who stepped up to deliver a pinpoint cross into the box. Ogam rose highest at the back post to nod the ball into the net, sparking wild celebrations among the Tusker faithful.

The goal was Ogam’s 15th of the season and a fitting way to end Gor Mahia’s dominance over the Brewers.

The win sees Tusker earn a vital three points and break their long-standing hoodoo against Gor Mahia. For Ryan Ogam, his clinical display further cements his status as one of the FKFPL’s standout players this season.
