‘I’m scared of her’- Sifan Hassan reveals the Kenyan star she fears most, tips Faith Kipyegon for marathon success

Dutch woman Sifan Hassan has disclosed the Kenyan marathoner she fears the most as she disclosed that Faith Kipyegon is destined for more success if she moves to the marathon.

Reigning Olympic marathon champion Sifan Hassan has disclosed who her serial threat in the marathon is and who she thinks might give her a headache in the near future.

The former Chicago Marathon champion has widely been regarded as the GOAT of the marathon but she is just human and sometimes, she is afraid of her competitors.

Sifan admitted that she is afraid of two-time Boston Marathon champion Hellen Obiri and most especially, her lethal finishing kick since she is one of the most accomplished track athletes.

(function (v, d, o, ai) {
ai = d.createElement(‘script’);
ai.defer = true;
ai.async = true;
ai.src = v.location.protocol + o;
d.head.appendChild(ai);
})(window, document, ‘//a.vdo.ai/core/v-pulsesports-co-ke-v0/vdo.ai.js’);

Sifan Hassan has dismissed claims of being the greatest, focusing instead on improving and achieving record-breaking marathon performances.

The Dutch woman revealed that having competed against Hellen Obiri in her track career, she knew that it would be a nightmare competing against her once again in the marathon.

Going into the Paris Olympic Games, Sifan Hassan told Citius Mag that she was sure Hellen Obiri would be the one to win the race.

However, she worked around the clock during the race, ensuring that Hellen Obiri was nowhere in sight with 200m to go and that’s how she won the race.

Sifan crossed the finish line in a stunning 2:22:55 ahead of Ethiopia’s Tigst Assefa and Hellen Obiri who clocked respective times of 2:22:58 and 2:23:10.

“I don’t know, I think Obiri, for some reason I’m scared of her. At the Paris Olympic Games, I thought she was going to win. She won in Boston and New York and New York is like Paris and I knew that whoever was great in New York was going to win in Paris. I had already given the gold medal to Obiri,” Sifan said.

“I’m scared of Obiri, I don’t know about the rest. You know in the last 200m if you are with Obiri, it’s almost like you have lost. She raced in the 5000m and has a crazy kick and I have raced with her and I have history with her. I also know the Kenyans because they have a strong kick but with about 200m or 400m to go when there is no athlete, I always have a lot of confidence.”

The marathon queen also admitted that if Faith Kipyegon transitions to the marathon, then she will be lethal following her great run on the track.

Sifan Hassan also pointed out that competing against Faith Kipyegon on the track was one of the most challenging time ever and if she goes to the marathon when the Dutch woman is still active, then she will have a hard time winning.

“In the future if Faith steps up the marathon, I really don’t know what will happen but I’m excited. She will be one of the good ones,” Sifan added.
