AFC Leopards out to displace Gor Mahia in fourth place as they target winning start to 2025

AFC Leopards will hope that their midweek go-slow has not affected their morale and preparations as they host FC Talanta on Saturday, seeking to move up to fourth place.

AFC Leopards have a chance to leapfrog Gor Mahia in fourth position if they manage to secure victory against FC Talanta in their FKF Premier League match on Saturday.

Ingwe take on Talanta at the Dandora Stadium in what is their first match of the year after delaying their start to 2025 due to some of their players’ involvement in the Mapinduzi Cup in Zanzibar.

However, the Leopards camp has not been a happy place this week after the players downed tools while demanding for the full payment of their December salaries, boycotting training on Thursday.

AFC Leopards players have refused to turn up for training ahead of Saturday’s FKF Premier League clash against FC Talanta but what is the problem this time?

Whether that will have an effect on their performance remains to be seen but coach Fred Ambani will be hoping that it is not the case as his team had been on a good run before the end of 2024, having gone five games without losing.

Leopards had won three and drawn two matches, which leaves them in sixth position with 22 points, eight behind leaders Tusker FC but they have played two games less than the brewers.

It means Ingwe can get in the title race if they win their two matches in hand as they will be just two points short of the league leaders.

Fans can now rest easy and get marchandise of their choice as the AFC Leopards replica Mafro kits are available for sale.

What will add to their motivation is the fact that victory on Saturday will take them to 25 points and in fourth place, displacing Gor Mahia, who are not playing this weekend.

Coach Ambani has insisted that his side cannot be ruled out of the title race and after beating Kenya Police, Bandari and Tusker during their last five matches, fans will feel that FC Talanta are a team they can easily dispatch.

Talanta come into the match second from the bottom on the table and have lost their last three matches, a record that Leopards can take advantage of.
