Nairobi – Two supporters of the President William Ruto those who were in political darkness have seen the light after being given a job in the government.
Former Minister of Gender Aisha Jumwa and Nairobi women's representative candidate Millicent Omanga have been appointed to government agencies.
The President appointed Jumwa as the non-executive Chairman of the Kenya Roads Board for three years, starting January 17, 2025.
Ruto revoked the appointment of Ahmed Kolosh Mohamed, who previously held the post.
Kolosh was reassigned to the Maritime Authority, where he will serve as non-executive chairman of the agency's board of directors for three years.
Omanga was appointed as a member of the board of directors of the Shipyards Company for three years.
Omanga's appointment was approved by Defense Minister Soipan Tuya.
Last year, Ruto promised to keep Jumwa within the limits of power despite sacking him in the July 2024 cabinet.
Speaking in Jumwa's home county of Kilifi, Ruto confirmed that the former minister sincerely supported him in his quest to become president and thus, not forgetting to give him great support in government work.
Elsewhere, Omanga's appointment came months after he rejected Ruto's nomination to serve on the board of the Nairobi Rivers Commission.
Why Millicent Omanga rejected William Ruto's job
Using the X social network, Omanga thanked the president for considering him for the important role but expressed his reservations about it.
The politician revealed that he will not take the position for personal reasons. His decision evoked mixed reactions from Kenyans, while others ridiculed it.
One section claimed that the appointment did not suit Omanga, due to the efforts he put in promoting Ruto as president.
Others realized that the president was making appointments without consulting those he assigned positions to.
What position was Omanga appointed to?
Previously, Omanga was among the people the president appointed to hold the position of Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) in various ministries.
He was appointed CAS for the Ministry of Interior.
Those positions were given to those who rejected the election who had supported Ruto in the 2022 campaigns.
The CAS appointment, however, was overturned by the court after various groups challenged it as unconstitutional.
Despite the CAS being sworn in, they could not start their term due to the ban imposed by the court against those positions.
