Beyond the medals, what she wants her children to know about her

Allyson Felix has revealed what she wants her children to remember about her, rather than her legendary athletic achievements.

American sprint legend Allyson Felix has opened up about what she wants her two children, Camryn and Kenneth Maurice Ferguson III to know her for.

The world already knows her as one of the most decorated sprinters in the world but that’s not what she wants her kids to think about when they think about their mother.

In an interview with Katelyn Hutchison on You Tube, Allyson Felix revealed that she wants her children to remember her virtues and know that she was very hard working and she supported people at any slight opportunity she got.

(function (v, d, o, ai) {
ai = d.createElement(‘script’);
ai.defer = true;
ai.async = true;
ai.src = v.location.protocol + o;
d.head.appendChild(ai);
})(window, document, ‘//a.vdo.ai/core/v-pulsesports-co-ke-v0/vdo.ai.js’);

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has discussed the pressure to break Flo-Jo’s 100m world record, insisting that while it’s a goal, it doesn’t consume her focus.

She does not what her children to be afraid of her since the world views her as a legend but she wants them to know that they are at liberty to approach her anytime they want and talk to her about anything.

“I want them to see me as their mom who they can always come to, as someone who will always support them as their mom and they should know that I’m someone they can always talk to about whatever,” Felix said.

“I want them to also know that I’m a hard worker and that I work on behalf of the people that I believe in. I try to advocate for them and that I stand up for what feels right.”

Meanwhile, Allyson Felix is undeniably one of the top sprinting talents the US ever produced. She started her career with the 100m and 200m before specialising in the 200m from 2003 to 2013.

Felix then shifted focus to the 400m from then and up until her retirement. As a track athlete, she managed to win medals in the 200m and 400m and was also very instrumental in the relay.

She won the 200m title at the 2012 London Olympic Games and is a three-time world champion over the distance, winning the 2005, 2007 and 2009 World Championships.

Felix admitted that she needed a helping hand and that was the only way she eased the pressure, urging athletes to always speak up whenever times get tough.

“After having my son, I would say it was just a lot, it was very hard to manage two children and also manage my retirement. It was a lot of different things at once and that was definitely a time that I needed to lean onto people and it helped to kind of adjust,” she added.
