The two-time Olympic champion has lauded Dennis Mitchell for guiding Sha’Carri Richardson while giving a controversial opinion on her block starts.
Jamaican-Canadian legend Donovan Bailey has given Dennis Mitchell his flowers for always putting in the work when it comes to Sha’Carri Richardson and her training mates.
Bailey revealed that he competed with Mitchell in a series of competitions when they were still active athletes and noted that he knows what the veteran tactician is capable of.
Donovan Bailey has always been a huge fan of Sha’Carri Richardson and in a previous episode of his podcast, he noted that Richardson is one of the most exceptional talents and people should not be quick to bash her anytime she loses a race.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has discussed the pressure to break Flo-Jo’s 100m world record, insisting that while it’s a goal, it doesn’t consume her focus.
“Dennis Mitchel has got that girl working man and he got the top three ladies at the US trials and they will represent in the 100m and it’s really good,” the three-time world champion said.
Speaking about Sha’Carri Richardson’s execution at the US Olympic trials, Bailey insisted that her poor starts might be a blessing in disguise for the 24-year-old.
He added that they give her the time to relax and focus on ending the race outstandingly and that is how she has been able to stay consistent for long.
However, Richardson has struggled to make use of her top end speed is some races including the Paris Olympic Games and the Diamond League Meeting final in Brussels where she lost to Julien Alfred in both races.
At the US Olympic trials, her speed worked in her favour throughout the rounds to the final where she clocked an incredible 10.71 seconds to cross the finish line.
“There are a lot of people trying to look at how athletes will execute races…you need to watch all of Sha’Carri Richardson’s races from the US trials this week,” Donovan Bailey said.
Noah Lyles’ fiancé Junelle Bromfield is already making her feelings known to him on what she is not prepared to do once the two decide to tie the knot following their engagement.
“Coming out of the blocks, she stumbled every time but what she never did was to relax or take away from the transition that she needed to have in order to achieve top speed.
“In every 100m you’re going to make mistakes but understand that the mistakes she made probably allowed her to relax more because she stumbled, then had to stay in the pockets the start to accelerate again until she got to a place where she knew she could separate herself.”
Sha’Carri Richardson has quite a busy 2025 and a point to prove at the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan where all eyes will be on her to deliver.
She is the defending champion who faces very strong opposition from the likes of Olympic champion Julien Alfred and Shericka Jackson who comes back after an injury setback.
