How did Fidel Ofuong'o disappear?

Benson shared that Fidel was last seen on Saturday evening, January 11, after going for a walk in Kombewa market.

“On Saturday evening, Fidel went to the market with his friends. While he was there, he met a young man from our village, someone we consider family, who suggested that they go to the Holo market. While in Holo, they met two other people from our village,” Benson said.

According to Benson, the group later persuaded Fidel to join them at the Black Pearl Restaurant in Nyamasaria, Kisumu, where they had fun together.

“They spent some time at a restaurant, and at nine o'clock at night, the others left to go home, but Fidel stayed behind. They did not inform us of his whereabouts. We only realized there was a problem when he failed to return home by Sunday evening, that's when we started looking for him,” Benson told TUKO.co.ke.

The family used social media and other platforms to report the disappearance of their relative.

Hezborne Migott, a lobbyist from Kisumu, said a family friend reached out to him to ask him to put a statement about Fidel's disappearance on his Facebook page with many followers.

“Even before I posted about the disappearance of the student, the person who informed me informed me that he had been found dead,” Hezborne wrote.

Benson described Fidel as a smart, hardworking, and loving young man who was loved by all who knew him. He praised the deceased for administering justice, especially when he showed courage during protest of June 2024.

“You responded to the country's call during the struggle for change, because you believed it was the right and just thing to do. You were steadfast in fighting for a better life, which luck bad, you haven't seen it,” Benson wrote in a heart-wrenching condolence message.

The investigation into the cause of Fidel's death is ongoing, while the family awaits the results of the autopsy for further clarification.
