The former Kenyan international has explained why Harambee Stars and Kenyans should be happy with the tough CHAN 2024 group that has Morocco, DRC, Zambia and Angola.
Former Harambee Stars striker Allan Wanga feels the tough group that Kenya find themselves in for the 2024 African Nations Championships (CHAN 2024) is actually a blessing in disguise.
Harambee Stars were pooled with Morocco and DR Congo, both two-time winners, Angola and Zambia in Group A for the tournament set to kick off in August in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
There is a feeling among observers and fans that Kenya have no chance of getting out of the group but Wanga is looking at it differently, as he believes heading into the tournament knowing they are up against strong teams will raise the levels of preparations and performances for Harambee Stars.

Harambee Stars interim assistant coach John Kamau is hoping that Kenya can quickly solve their problems upfront ahead of the CHAN 2024 tournament.
“It is a plus for us because the players are going to prepare psychologically knowing they are not in an easy group,” Wanga said while reacting to the draw.
“The group will give them the motivation to prepare well. It is not something surprising because as a footballer, you must be ready for any challenge. So, with the time we have been given, by August, we must be in a position where we have prepared well and good to go,” added Wanga, while urging those involved to take advantage of the postponement of the tournament to August and prepare the team adequately.
Angola are among teams set to give Kenya a major test and Wanga, who played in the country for Petro de Luanda, has weighed in on what Harambee Stars players can expect.
FKF vice president McDonald Mariga has shared how he feels Harambee Stars can ensure they qualify from their tough CHAN 2024 group that has Morocco, Angola, DRC and Zambia.
“In Angola, most of the players have passion to play at home and many do not want to go to Europe. So, I think being the hosts, we need to prepare well and any team is beatable,” he said.
Kenya have a poor record against the four teams, having lost three times in five against Morocco, the other two being draws, winning three, losing four while drawing twice with DRC Congo, while against Angola, they have an even record of two wins and as many losses in four matchups.
Harambee Stars have a bad record against Zambia, who have beaten them 21 times, while drawing seven with only six matches going Kenya’s way.
