Why William Kabogo wants social media restrictions

In his review on Tuesday, January 14, the ICT Cabinet nominee (CS) emphasized the need for Kenyans to balance their right to freedom of expression with responsible use of the internet.

Kabogo suggested banning people who are found misusing and using social media to spread hate speech and other morally inappropriate things.

The CS candidate claimed that this would discourage others from following the same evils.

The former Kiambu governor said if his appointment as minister is approved, he will communicate with Kenyan youth online to advocate for the proper use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and social media.

Kabogo's remarks came after President Ruto pleaded with young people who are not happy with his government to stop the habit of drawing portraits of leaders and giving pictures of AI in coffins.

What happened during Lee Kinyanjui's review?

Meanwhile, Kinyanjui faced tough questions during his primary in the National Assembly on Tuesday, January 14, as allegations surfaced about his alleged abuse of street children during the Nakuru governorship.

The dispute centered on allegations that Kinyanjui, 49, moved street children and their families to Embobut Forest—an area reported to have wild animals—to beautify Nakuru before it was elevated to city status. Speaker Moses Wetang'ula explained the issue raised by the member of parliament during the inspection.

Kinyanjui, who appeared agitated, struggled to maintain his composure and accused his political opponents of fabricating the allegations. He dismissed the claims as baseless, calling them a work of fiction.

Kinyanjui, a close associate of the former president Uhuru Kenyattahe further criticized the leaders, saying that unverified claims from political enemies should not be taken as evidence.
