Nairobi is set to host the third edition of the Africa Media Festival (AMF) on February 26-27, 2025, at the National Museums of Kenya. This landmark event has become a vital platform for African media professionals, storytellers, and innovators to connect and shape the future of the industry.
Under the theme “Bridging Gaps, Connecting Media Futures,” this year’s festival will address critical structural, technological, and cultural challenges facing African media. Past editions attracted over 1,300 participants, 120 speakers, and featured 50 sessions, solidifying AMF as a hub for forward-thinking dialogue and collaboration.
“This year, the Africa Media Festival is all about spotlighting the unsung heroes of the media industry—those whose work often goes unnoticed but drives significant impact,” says Martie Mtange, Deputy Curator of AMF. She added that the event will feature dynamic discussions on standing out in a saturated content creation landscape and workshops tailored for young professionals.
Lisa Muchangi, Marketing and Communications Manager at Baraza Lab, describes AMF as “where the heart of our media and creative community comes alive. It’s a space for collaboration, learning, and building connections beyond the event.”
Attendees can look forward to Ignite Talks, hands-on workshops, and demos of cutting-edge storytelling technologies. AMF’s inclusive approach ensures diverse voices, from rural creators to industry leaders, are represented, fostering a space for authentic narratives.
Kenya, a leader in media innovation, is an ideal host for this transformative event. As Maurice Otieno, Executive Director at Baraza Lab, puts it, “The Africa Media Festival is our annual creative recharge station. It’s like finding an oasis in the desert, except we’re guzzling inspiration and fresh ideas instead of water.”
Beyond the two-day event, AMF 2025 will feature pre- and post-event activities such as regional forums and industry workshops, ensuring ongoing dialogue. With its growing influence, AMF underscores Africa’s potential to lead in global storytelling and creative innovation.
