Minister of Public Service Justin Muturi has responded to the invitation of the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to record information at the Kilimani Police Station regarding the alleged kidnapping of his son, Leslie Muturi.
In pictures circulated online, Muturi is seen arriving at the station under heavy security before recording information about his son, who disappeared during the height of protest of opposing the government in June 2024.
“Today, I honored the invitation of the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to record a statement at the Kilimani Police Station regarding the abduction of my son, Leslie Muturi, last year,” Muturi's statement read.
Who detained Justin Muturi's son?
In his statement to the police, Muturi claimed that his son, Leslie, was detained by the current Director General of the National Intelligence Service, Noordin Haji.
The kidnapping allegedly occurred during public outrage over the controversial Finance Bill 2024.
In a document seen by TUKO.co.ke, Muturi claimed that he is sure Haji approved the kidnapping of his son.
Feeling helpless at the time, Muturi said he approached the then Minister of Internal Affairs, Kithur Kindikiwho contacted Haji, but Haji denied involvement in Leslie's disappearance.
The minister said the act made him go to the White House to inform the President William Ruto about his son's plight. In response, Ruto called Haji, and asked where Leslie was.
Muturi claimed he heard Haji confirm that he had detained Leslie, which prompted Ruto to ask him to release her.
Haji allegedly agreed and said Leslie would be released within an hour, which she was.
“I heard the president asking Noordin Haji if he was holding my son. Noordin confirmed that he was holding my son, and the president asked him to release Leslie immediately. Noordin responded by saying that Leslie would be released within an hour. A little over an hour. An hour later, Leslie called me phone saying he had been released and was at home,” Muturi's statement claimed.
Muturi condemns the cases of kidnapping in the country
This comes a few days after Muturi denounced the increase in kidnapping cases across the country. Speaking on January 12, Muturi called for the quick arrest of those responsible for kidnapping Kenyan youths.
Muturi said he continues to struggle with the emotional distress his family faced after his son's disappearance.
The former speaker of the National Assembly said despite being the attorney general at the time and having connections with national intelligence, he had never received information about Leslie's abduction.
