Peres Jepchirchir, just like marathon world record holder Ruth Chepng’etich, has admitted that she does not have a coach.
Peres Jepchirchir has made a shocking revelation concerning her training as she seeks to continue dominating road races.
The reigning London Marathon champion, just like marathon world record holder Ruth Chepng’etich, admitted that she does not have a coach, seemingly noting that it’s her secret to success.
In an interview with Sports Wave Africa Foundation, Jepchirchir explained that she loves planning her races and only competes when she is ready, the main reason behind not having a coach.
Junelle Bromfield’s desire to cook for her fiancé Noah Lyles left her in a major dilemma as her choice of meal became too problematic to prepare.
Having a coach would mean she consults someone before registering for a race and with her lifestyle, the former Olympic marathon champion revealed that she does not like the pressure of working under instructions.
“I don’t have a secret, I’m the one who feels my own body because I don’t have a coach, I train by myself. I used to make my own programs and then the times I go for fartlek, I keep my records and even when I go for the long runs,” Peres Jepchirchir said.
“I used to follow the records for the previous years and previous races so that I compare. That would let me know if I’m in good shape or not. I run when I feel like and I prefer to do things my own way. I train alone for now and I plan to continue like that.”
In the past years, Jepchirchir has made a name for herself thanks to her hard work and resilience in the face of adversity. She started her professional career in 2013 before making her debut on the global stage in 2015 in a marathon in London but she failed to finish the race.
In 2016, she clinched a series of wins, including the World Half Marathon Championships and the Valencia Half Marathon. In 2019, she won the Saitama International Marathon.
She won the 2020 Valencia Marathon and defended her World Half Marathon title in the same year before winning the Olympic marathon at the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the New York City Marathon.

The 2022 season was adventurous for her as she claimed the Boston Marathon title before injuries struck. In 2023, she finished third at the London Marathon and rounded up her season with a win at the World Athletics Road Running Championships. She won the London Marathon in 2024 before finishing 15th at the Paris Olympic Games.
The 31-year-old revealed that injuries are a part of an athlete’s career and she admitted that they have been there since she started her career and it is just now that people get to know of such. At the moment, she revealed that there is a team looking after her injuries and promised to bounce back stronger.
