President William Ruto has left the country for Kampala, Uganda, for a one-day visit to attend the African Union Summit.
A statement from the spokesman of the House of Representatives, Hussein Mohamed, said that the meeting, which focuses more on the African Agricultural Development Program after Malabo, aims to eradicate hunger and poverty through development led by agriculture and change the systems of food farming in Africa.
The conference will assess progress towards the set goals and aims to adopt the Kampala Declaration, which outlines a shared vision to transform agri-food systems from 2026 to 2035.
How will Kenya benefit from Ruto's trip to Uganda?
At the summit in Kampala, the president is expected to highlight Kenya's efforts to reduce poverty, create jobs, and promote food security and sustainable growth.
“He will highlight the alignment of CAADP with Kenya's Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda and Vision 2030, reaffirming the country's commitment to agricultural transformation,” the statement read more.
Later, Ruto will meet the President of Uganda Yoweri Museveni to discuss developing regional priorities.
The talks will also aim to build consensus and garner support for his role as champion of the African Union's institutional reforms before launching his progress report on the reform agenda.

This followed Museveni's arrival in Siaya county on January 2, 2025, to celebrate the Luo Community Festival.
The Piny Luo Festival started on December 30, 2024, and ended on January 2, 2025.

Museveni joined Ruto and Raila Odinga at the peak of the celebrations, which included the opening of the new Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium (Siaya County Stadium) with 20,000 seats.
