1. Nation Today

The newspaper reported on a student who defied many challenges to post a remarkable result in the 2024 KCSE examination, whose results were released on January 9.

Eighteen-year-old Enrique Enock made it to the list of top performing students despite spending most of his time on the streets struggling to raise his school fees.

The former student of Poisonous Boys got an 'A' of 81 points and emerged among the best candidates in Kisumu county and the second best in his school.

The girl, however, revealed that her journey to the top was faced with several challenges, including financial ones that made her become a vendor to make a living.

The Standard saved space for the resolution of the Chief of the Civil Defense Force Uganda (UPDF) General Muhoozi Kainerugaba to withdraw from social media.

Muhoozi deactivated his X (formerly Twitter) account, marking the end of a controversial period on the platform.

The son of President Yoweri Museveni, announced his departure from the microblogging platform on Friday, January 9, 2025.

He attributed the decision to instructions from his faith and reconsidered his military duties.

In his farewell post, Kainerugaba described his journey on X as “a whirlwind and exciting journey” since joining the platform in 2014.

The general promised to return to social media at the appropriate time after fulfilling what he described as the urgent work of God to restore peace and security in the area.

Kainerugaba's rising political profile, including mobilizing support through public meetings, fueled speculation about his presidential aspirations.

While Museveni has denied preparing him for the presidency, the so-called “The Muhoozi Project” continues to spark debate.

Kainerugaba's decision came days after he sparked outrage by threatening to “cut” opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine.

While the general later described the threat as a joke, it drew widespread criticism.

That was not the first time that the general's posts caused controversy.

In 2022, his remarks about invading Kenya forced Museveni to issue an official apology.

He has also made controversial statements about international conflicts, including the hypothesis of Uganda in the war with Russia Ukraine.

4. The Standard

The Standard newspaper reported on the nominee rejecting the President's job offer William Ruto.

Former ICT Minister Margaret Ndung'u rejected Ruto's nomination as Kenya's High Commissioner to Ghana.

He was expected to appear before the National Assembly's Committee on Defense, Intelligence and Foreign Relations on Friday morning, January 10.

The chairman of the committee, Nelson Koech, who is also a member of parliament for Belgut, told his colleagues that Ndung'u wrote a letter to the clerk of the National Assembly explaining that he could not appear for the investigation and thus take that responsibility.

He cited personal reasons and pressing family commitments as the reason for turning down the job.

Koech expressed displeasure at the extreme nature of ambassador nominees, especially those appointed to Ghana, rejecting their appointment.

He asked the selection authority to conduct a review before handing over to the nominees jobs that they are not interested in or cannot perform.

The committee continued to investigate other nominees.

Former Minister of Agriculture Andrew Karanja, who was appointed Kenya's ambassador to Brazil, appeared before the committee first.

Also to be examined are Ababu Namwamba, proposed as Kenya's permanent representative in the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) in Nairobi, and Noor Gabow, proposed as Ambassador to Port-au-Prince.
