- Senator Edwin Sifuna criticized President William Ruto's top allies including William Kamket, Oscar Sudi and Francis Atwoli, calling them a liability to his political future
- Sifuna dismissed Kamket's remarks as out of date, saying that today's Kenyan voters are informed of their constitutional rights and are less susceptible to intimidation.
- He blamed the Ruto administration for losing public confidence, citing unfulfilled promises, the rising cost of living, and the president's reliance on poor advice from his own people.
- The senator called on Kenyans to reject threats, adding that the honor of leadership must be earned through integrity and service, as stated in Chapter 6 of the constitution
Nairobi – Senator Edwin Sifuna has criticized senior people in the President's camp William Rutoclaiming that they could deprive him of the opportunity to run for a second term.
In a recent interview, Sifuna named several leaders, including Tiaty Member of Parliament William Kamket, Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi, and veteran COTU general secretary Francis Atwolias possible liabilities for Ruto's political future.
What is Ruto's strategy for 2027 while cutting off visits to Mount Kenya because of claims he is being rejected?
Sifuna addressed Kamket's recent remarks, which he denied were out of the blue and reminiscent of the old days when leaders ruled through fear and intimidation.
He argued that today's Kenyan voters are more aware of their constitutional rights and cannot be coerced.
“Kamket should be told it will not happen; this is not 1980. This is not the generation they were selling fear. A Kenyan today is a Kenyan who understands the constitution, their right. They know the fact that you cannot force yourself on Kenyans,” Sifuna said.
The ODM Secretary General also pointed to the growing frustration among Kenyans, especially the youth, due to the non-implementation of promises and the rising cost of living.
According to Sifuna, Ruto's administration is losing the confidence of voters due to its failure to fulfill its promises.
“How did we get here? Because after the president was elected in 2022, William Ruto was one of the most popular politicians in the country. What did he do in the middle period to reach the point where he is insulted. Left, right and center. Instead of addressing the questions, they are addressing the symptoms,” Sifuna said.
How will Ruto be a one-term president?
In addition, he criticized some of Ruto's close associates, naming them as friends of the court who have failed to give good advice, thereby increasing the president's woes.
“So, unfortunately, he is surrounded by people who are determined to tear him down. They will bring him down. If there is anyone to blame for Ruto's immediate presidency, it will be Kamket, Oscar Sudi and others like those around him, giving him bad advice, including my uncle Atwoli,” Sifuna said.
The Nairobi senator urged Kenyans not to be intimidated by leaders' chests and encouraged them to speak out against the failure of leadership.
“Respect is available, it is not something to force. You cannot force people to respect you. Respect is obtained by the way you conduct yourself, the way you relate to people, and the way you show respect to people as required under chapter 6 of the Constitution.” he added.
