One family in the county of Bomet mourns the death of their 135-year-old grandmother Elizabeth Borett Obot Chepkerich.
Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Mama Elizabeth's grandson, Benard Chirchir, said she died on January 7, 2025, at her home.
How Did Mother Elizabeth Borett Die?
Chirchir explained that he was not sick and his death was due to old age.
“He was fine when he went to sleep, but around seven at night, he coughed and started breathing very fast, then he died,” he said.
He said his grandmother's body has been kept in the mortuary of the Kapkatet Sub-County Hospital.
The Family Requests Financial Assistance to Bury Nanya
Chirchir explained that the family has organized a donation on Monday, January 13, 2025, at their home in Kobel, near Kobel Mission Academy, to give their grandmother a dignified burial.
According to him, the family expects many visitors and mourners as Mother Elizabeth lived a long time and was known to many people.
“If we get up to KSh 300,000, it will be a great help because we expect many people to attend the funeral,” he said.
The family has also asked well-meaning Kenyans to raise money for a dignified funeral for the centenarian.

“The organizing committee and the family are asking for your prayers and financial support to pay for the hospital and funeral,” added Chirchir.
When will Mother Elizabeth Borett be buried?
The grandmother's body will leave the Kapkatet mortuary on Wednesday, January 15, for a vigil before being buried on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at her home in Kobel Village.
The deceased is survived by two sons, Augustine Korir and Andrew Korir, as well as several grandchildren.
