Nairobi – Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has taken legal action against Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung'wah following his public remarks about his behavior as Regional Governor.
The Majority Leader in the National Assembly made controversial remarks on Saturday, January 3, during the funeral of his mother, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetangulain Kabuchai, Bungoma county.
In his public speech, Ichung'wah accused Natembeya, the former Rift Valley Regional Commissioner, of being involved in the kidnapping and killing of Kenyans during the Jubilee administration.
The MP's remarks have sparked anger from the governor, who is now demanding a public apology.
Complaints of Natembeya
Through his legal representatives, Oringe Waswa & Opany law firm, Natembeya has demanded an apology within three days.
The county leader said that if Ichung'wah does not comply, he will take legal action for defamation.
Natembeya insists that Ichung'wah's remarks were false, malicious, and unwise, and have caused serious damage to his reputation.
The lawyers claimed that Ichung'wah's words, 'You were the Regional Commissioner leading the kidnapping and killing of Kenyans, shame on you,' meant that Natembeya was directly responsible for the killing and disappearance of innocent Kenyans.
Natembeya has said that the MP's remarks have adversely affected his professional and personal reputation, causing him to be ridiculed and despised by the public.
“The claims against our client have had and continue to have a negative impact on our client's reputation, trustworthiness, integrity, and social and professional standing. Our client has been adversely affected in character, honor, trustworthiness, and social and professional standing. at home and abroad,” read the letter.

Natembeya's wishes
The governor has asked Ichung'wah to retract his remarks and publish an official apology in newspapers three major – Nation, Standard, and Star – within the specified time.
Natembeya's legal team has further warned that failure to comply with the order will go hand in hand with legal action.
“We are writing this letter to demand, and we are doing so now, to cancel and apologize, which should be published in the next issue of the Nation, Standard and Star newspapers in the words that will be adopted by us to reduce the serious harm caused to our client.
The publication should be in a clearly visible manner and with such information. In addition, we demand that you issue an apology to our client. Our client demands, and we do so now, that you attend within three (3) days, failure to do so will lead to the opening of a case,” read part of the letter.
What he said Rigathi Gachagua about Natembeya
Earlier, former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua urged the governor of Trans Nzoia to continue his service to the people and not deal with critics.
The former vice president asked Natembeya not to be afraid to speak the truth, adding that criticism from the President's allies William Ruto you show that he had an impact on society.
