Billy was released after 15 days and had been kidnapped by unknown people.

How did Billy Mwangi return home?

His mother, Regina Wairimu, thanked Kenyans for their support in demanding his release and recalled Billy's first words when he arrived at their gate on Monday, January 6, at 2am.

“We want to thank God first and Kenyans in general for your great help. He came to the gate at two in the morning and knocked. He said, 'Mum open up' and when I went, I found he was fine. God knows, but we thank everyone who prayed for us,” Regina said.

His father expressed happiness that their son was healthy, although he said they were still in shock.

“We are still in shock, but we are happy that our son is back,” Gerald Karicha said.

He also remembered when he saw his son at the gate.

“He came at two in the morning. He brought himself home. I was with his mother outside when we saw him. We thank God and everyone who prayed for us and supported us,” Karicha added.

Billy Mwangi wipes his mother's tears after returning home

Billy, who is a blogger, was kidnapped in a barbershop in Embu while he was waiting to be shaved.

Video of their emotional meeting shows Billy hugging his crying mother, Regina Wairimu, before slowly wiping away her tears.

She held him, wiped her tears and hugged him again, showing the close relationship between mother and son.

Billy's father revealed that his son was fine after his release and expressed his happiness.

Following his release, social media users offered their best wishes to the family while some called for the release of other youths who have yet to be found.
