The outspoken politician expressed his dismay at the region's political representation on the national stage.
Speaking at the funeral of Eric Mutugi, the son of former Embu senator Lenny Kivuti, on Friday, January 3, Gachagua targeted elected leaders from the area.
The former vice president highlighted the differences with leaders from other parts of the country, especially ODM Raila Odinga.
Gachagua praised Raila for his political stance, pointing out that despite having never been president, the ODM leader is still involved in every government.
“The biggest loss we suffered is due to the quality of the leaders we sent to the Senate and the National Assembly. This old man called Raila Odinga has never been president, yet he is in every government because of the quality of the leaders he sends to the Parliament and the Senate. We, on the other hand, are going take anything,” Gachagua said.
How will Mount Kenya elect its leaders in 2027?
Gachagua's remarks also hinted at a new leadership approach in Mount Kenya towards the 2027 General Election.
He pointed out the need for more scrutiny when choosing the next leaders in the next election to avoid their current distress.
“So in 2027, we will use a magnifying glass, we will examine you deeply; who is your father, who is your mother, do you attend church or not, did you steal someone's pen when you were in the fourth grade, and can you sell your community or not?” Gachagua swore.
He regretted that many past leaders of the region betrayed the community for personal interests and caused the region to suffer for a long time.
Gachagua made it clear that the region will not repeat the same mistakes and that the leaders who will be elected in the near future must be proven patriots.
“Because the problem that happened to us is that our leaders have sold us as a community, they betrayed us, took money and then sold us as a community, that is why we are in the situation we are in as a people. of Mt. Kenya therefore, going forward, we want the level of leaders to be elected in this area to be tested and proven to be patriots who cannot sell the community for their guts,” he explained.
