President William Ruto has revealed that he consulted Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni before naming the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to be Kenya's candidate for the position of chairman of the African Union Commission.
Why did Ruto advise Museveni about Raila's candidacy?
Speaking on Thursday, January 2, during the Piny Luo cultural festival in Siaya County, Ruto he said he asked for Museveni's advice about running for Raila's presidency in the AUC because Museveni is considered the elder of the East African region.

“Before announcing his intention, we met Elder Yoweri Museveni as an elder of the area and we talked to others,” Ruto said.
The President confirmed that after consulting with Museveni and other heads of state, they agreed that Raila is the right choice for the AUC chairman from the East African region.
He expressed confidence that Raila will get the highly competitive AUC seat, and bring about positive change in Africa.
