Kakamega: The contractor of the Bukhungu stadium had an argument with the President William Ruto about the slow pace of the field's renovation.

Expressing displeasure with the progress of the renovation, he criticized the contractor, accusing him of undermining the opportunity of Kakamega residents to host the CHAN 2025 tournament.
“We decided to support this project because we wanted to use it for CHAN but when the CHAN team came to find out they said there is no way that this project can be found by February. CHAN is next month,” Ruto said.
The President emphasized that the people of Kakamega, a football-loving region, would greatly appreciate the CHAN tournament.
In his defense, the contractor invited the president to visit the field to assess the progress of the renovation. He also assured Ruto that the project will be completed by April 2026.
“Sir, by April 2026, this whole field will be finished. Once you reach it, and get the support of the county and the national government, it will happen. We have the capacity,” the contractor said.
The President also accused the contractor of having a reputation for abandoning projects in the middle and stressed the need to complete the project within the promised time.
“I am told that you are a famous contractor… did you say April? So even if we give you an extension of one or two months, this stadium must be completed by June next year, 2026. You have harmed the people of Kakamega. The people of Kakamega must be able to use their stadium, we have understood each other. my friend?” Ruto added.
The contractor accepted the president's remarks with a sign of agreement.
