New information has emerged about the person identified by some social media users as the main culprit behind the recent kidnappings.
Abel Kimutai faced a lot of abuse on social media following the press conference of the former vice president Rigathi Gachaguawhere he suggested a man named “Abel” might be connected to the recent kidnapping.
Who is involved in the kidnapping?
Report of NTV revealed that Kimutai was a detective in the Directorate of Criminal Investigation before resigning from that post in 2022.
Further investigation revealed that Kimutai was once a fraud detective in the Economic and Commercial Crime Unit.

In his resignation letter, the then inspector general approved Kimutai's departure from the country's investigation unit.
“The Inspector General of the National Police Service in accordance with the letter referred to Ref: NPS/IG/SEC/1/2/2/15/A VOL. II/100 dated 23 September 2022 has approved your resignation from the National Police Service under the 24-hour rule,” said the statement in part.
Did Kimutai threaten to sue 2 X users?
Responding to allegations of his involvement in the kidnapping, Kimutai named two X users whose posts on the forum went viral.
One was identified as Daniel Onyango, while the other went by the X handle @DanChepta.
He said their posts violate the Computer Misuse and Internet Offenses Act, Section 27 because they are false and malicious.
Seeking solutions from DCIasked the organization to initiate an investigation and action against the two.
This comes a few days after former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua claimed that he is aware of a conspiracy to kidnap citizens who disagree with the government.

He claimed that a special unit designed to monitor critics is operating from a building in Nairobi and is headed by a senior officer who is not Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja.
Gachagua threatened to expose those operating the kidnapping network if the alleged unit was not dismantled.
