Embu: Regina Wairimu, Billy Mwangi's mother, has been hospitalized a few days after she was kidnapped by men believed to be police officers.
Billy is alleged to have shared a picture of defaming the President William Rutowhere the head of state was seen lying dead in an image created using AI.
What is a writ of habeas?
Wairimu appeared with her husband, Gerald Mwangi, in an interview and asked the government to be merciful in the punishment of their young man.
“I have spoken to Billy Mwangi's father. The stress and desperation in his voice is very sad; he informs me that his mother is sick and hospitalized because of Billy's kidnapping,” said former president of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Eric Theuri.
“I have assured him that we will submit an application to the court for a writ of habeas corpus. This is the basic thing we can do,” he added.
According to FindLaw.com, a writ of habeas is a court order that requires a public official (such as a prison warden) to bring an incarcerated person before the court and explain the legal reasons why he should be detained.
