Are police officers involved in kidnapping?

In a statement on Thursday, December 26, Kanja denied reports linking the National Police Service to recent cases of kidnapping.

The IG said that no police station in the country is detaining any person among those mentioned as kidnapped.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the National Police Service is not involved in any kidnapping, and no police station in the country is holding any of the abductees,” Kanja said.

Why do Kenyans not trust IG Douglas Kanja?

However, many Kenyans seemed to disagree with the police chief about who is responsible for the kidnappings witnessed in the country.

Kenyans wondered why the police had not arrested the kidnappers if they were not really involved in the incidents.

Cecilia Bosire:

“Be a little careful.”

Mathews:

“It would be good if you would build your reputation through your actions. There is no trust in the Kenyan police. For luck bad.”

Chepkindet Jr.:

“You admit that you have failed to protect Kenyans and maintain law and order.”

Sewe Saldanha:

“Basically, you are saying that the kidnappers are criminals and Kenyans have the right to defend themselves?”

Polaris Kenya:

“Absolute lie…we know secret kidnappers use cars without police number plates!”

Nelson Havi:

“You tell the truth and lies that the National Police Service is not involved in kidnappings. Truth: NPS does not have an official department for kidnappings. Lies: There is an unofficial department that has been trained and funded specifically to kidnap, detain and kill Kenyans. Stop lying to Kenyans. “
