There is uncertainty in Kiburet village, Ainamoi ward, Ainamoi constituency, Kericho county, as a woman who died while giving birth is being buried.

Gladys Chepkemoi Lelgo is reported to have died at the Kericho County Referral Hospital while giving birth.

The mother of three is reported to have died due to negligence, a situation that left her relatives seeking justice.

Kericho Women's Representative Discusses Chepkemoi's Death

Chepkemoi was buried in an emotional mourning ceremony, attended by friends and family who came to pay their last respects.

“We must come together in solidarity to deal with the unacceptable high number of maternal deaths resulting from complications of pregnancy and childbirth. This challenge places our county in the highest position for the burden of maternal deaths among other counties.

I am asking the Kericho county government, the county assembly and KMPDU to act quickly and investigate the incident that caused the death of this mother. Those found guilty of professional negligence should be held personally responsible for this tragic death,” said Beatrice Kemei, Kericho Women Representative.

Is Kericho's Health Sector Declining?

There were two wooden coffins, one for Chepkemoi and the other for his son, when they were buried together in a joint burial ceremony.

“The health sector in Kericho is deteriorating. This situation needs help from the central government and non-governmental organizations. The people who are given the responsibility of providing services are not capable,” said Doreen, the merchant bitterly.

Social media users offered their condolences to the bereaved family.
