William Ruto Transfers Kipchumba Murkomen to the Ministry of Internal Security

  • The Minister of Internal Security was left vacant after Kithure Kindiki was appointed to the Office of the Deputy President
  • The post was held by Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi for a while; Kipchumba Murkomen will now hold dearly
  • Until his new position, Murkomen was the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, which has now been handed over to Salim Mvurya

Nairobi – The Ministry of Internal Security will now be under Kipchumba Murkomen.

President William Ruto approved the reorganization of the Council of Ministers on Thursday, December 19.

Until his new office, Murkomen headed the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

How Ruto made changes to his Cabinet

Salim Mvuryapreviously the Minister of Investment and Trade, will now take over the role of Sports.

The Mvurya Ministry has been entrusted to former Nakuru governor Lee Kinyanjui, while the former Health Minister Mutahi Kagwe being handed over to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development.

The first governor of Kiambu, William Kabogo, has been appointed to lead the document on Information, Communication and Digital Economy.

In this change, the president gave the responsibilities of the former ambassadors of Agriculture and IT to the present.

Margaret Nyambura, the Minister of Communications Technology, was appointed Kenya's High Commissioner to Ghana, while Andrew Karanja, who was heading the Ministry of Agriculture, was appointed Kenya's ambassador to Brazil.

All eyes are now on the National Assembly's Nomination Committee, which may have to pause its recess to interview the new nominees for the Cabinet.

This is happening just four months since President Ruto made the last change in the National Leadership.

How Ruto made changes to the Cabinet in 2024

In July, Ruto sacked his entire Cabinet in an effort to calm public anger against his administration.

He later rebuilt his team by recruiting senior leaders from the opposition side.

The change at that time came after a conversation between the President and the leader of the opposition, Raila Odinga.

The two agreed to put aside their political differences, with Ruto saying that he decided to unite the nation, thereby hiring Ministers who were previously on the opposition side.

This latest change comes a few weeks after the President met with his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta.

Ministers appointed to the Ministries of Agriculture and Trade (Kagwe and Kinyanjui) are allies of Uhuru.
